Holy Wombat Batman!!?*+&

I don't have a photo for you of a Wombat; didn't get one. But I'll never forget what we saw.
We started out early yesterday morning to not only beat the heat, but the hords of flies in back-country farm-country. As we flew down a steep hill, I slammed on the disk brakes and threw the bike onto the shoulder. Shirley wasn't as fast to stop, she went ahead and scared the baby Wombat back onto his trail.

I out-flanked it and came back towards it on his trail through the tall gras and snakes. Getting my lens only a foot away from its nose. I clicked a photo, but I'm having focus issues and did not get a shot.

Finally it spotted me and turned around towards the road and Shirley. I chased after it and it being half blind, it ran right under my lying down bike, smashed into the pedals and knocked a pack losse. Now I can't even knock a pack loose by hitting a pothole at 80 kph on a downhill. In fact, though it was only an adolescent, it almost turned my bike upside down to escape.

What is a Wombat, just think of an over-inflated groundhog. Adults must weigh about 70 lbs.
