Travelling the lovely Shenandoah valley

For hundreds of k's we followed the paths of Confederate armies headed towards Washington.

We travelled seldom used gravel roads, always with views of the Appalachian mountains to the left and right of us.

Along the Stonewall Jackson memorial highway, we crossed the Shenandoah River.

Shirley enjoyed a break from the mountains, but starting tomorrow morning we head up to the Skyline Drive.

The valley is one of the most picturesque rides so far.

Shirley rode strongly considering the heat returned.

During our last break at about 4 km. from the end of our 91 km day, we heard thunder though it was sunny. Only 15 minutes after we were in our comfortable dry motel room, the skies opened up with a torrential downpour like we have never experienced.

  1. Motel room? Who are you, and what have you done with Tom Simon?
