At the Crossroads in Cumberland, Maryland

We've finished our ride along the C&O towpath. I'm already missing that part of our journey. But now we'll soon begin another adventure and ride the entire GAP, Great Alleghany Passage bike trail

The GAP is going to be interesting. The surface is all limestone screenings. No big puddles darn it!

If only someone could find a way to use donkeys to pull bikes along the towpath,
they'd make a bundle!

Cumberland has a full-time downtown mall that is closed to vehicle traffic.

This is an example of the barge that was to be used along the canal and towpath.

Cumberland MD is situated deep in a valley along the Potomac River.

It's obvious to us that we'ed be travelling tons of hills if it were not for the paths along canals.

Or maybe someone could get the barges pulled by donkeys or horses and we could put our bikes on the barges for a free ride?
