As we ridealong, we get a break now and then when we take time to read local history.
Now for the entire story. In the past 10 days we rode 648 km, not a particularly strong performance even with the packs. However we surmounted 11, 475 m of uphill which has drained a lot of our strength. So we're taking a well deserved day to recover.
The weather has cooled down and we have entered the Shenandoah valley, leaving the big hills for a short break. Then in only 3 or 4 days we'll do a 650 m climb up to the Blueridge Parkway. Here in Blacksburg on a day off, after a short day ride, I picked up a spare drive belt, we had an Italian feast and today we'll just lie around and plan our next month of riding.
As I mentioned earlier, we started out the trip by hopping onto the Adventure Touring Association's Trans America route at Lexington KY. But a rider could get along by simply following Bicycle Route 76 signs. The signs are frequent and an arrow is added at turns.
