On the home stretch but needing a break
We are in St. Louis Missouri.
The trip across Kansas, approx 800km, took at least 10 days of riding and a lot of water considering how dry it was. The we crossed all of Missouri, the "Show me State" in a lot less time averaging close to 100 km per day. Yet we took it easy in some ways, getting the riding all done between sunrise and around 1 to 2 p.m. We had to beat the heat, which got to near 93 degrees F most afternoons.
Missouri had us crossing the Ozark mountains. The Ozarks gave us 4,300 feet of uphill 2 days ago, 3,500 feet of climbing yesterday and a short day today with only 1,275 feet of up. It was a workout!
MILEPOSTS - yesterday morning we crossed the 2,500 mile mark or 4,000 km of this ride. Today we are at 120 days of riding this year, which includes two months in NZ, the ride from Louisville KY to Buffalo NY and this tour from Calgary to here.
ALMOST THERE! - I guess there are only a few hundred miles to go on our ride to Louisville KY. After a couple days off here in St. Louis maybe visiting the Missouri Botanical Gardens, we'll head across Illinois, my mother's home state, into Indiana then drop down into Louisville, then take a rental car back to Buffalo NY.
